Children of the Mekong
Children of the Mekong (COTM) is the UK branch of Enfants du Mékong (EDM), a leading French charity founded in 1958 with the aim of sending poor children to school in Southeast Asia. In 2016, it had an annual budget of nearly 11 million Euros, with 83% of charitable expenditure. COTM / EDM currently sponsors 21,706 children, oversees 100 development projects every year, and operates 10 centres and 78 foster homes in Thailand, Laos, the Philippines, Cambodia, Myanmar, Vietnam and China.
In the UK, Children of the Mekong was established in 2011 and in under 6 years, has raised £700K, sponsors more than 130 children and supports 31 development projects. Our actions have benefitted a cumulative 6,000 people in Southeast Asia. While COTM works very closely with the field and the Charity’s head office in Paris, the Charity is independently run and overseen by a motivated and dedicated Board of Trustees.
COTM runs a charity shop in South West London, and the office is located in the basement of the shop. At the moment, COTM is comprised of one permanent staff member and a young and dynamic team of up to 5 interns and volunteers on daily basis.
As part its growth strategy, COTM has decided to recruit for the first time an additional permanent member of staff. This is an exciting time for the Charity as it seeks to establish itself as the centre of excellence and best practice for fundraising, targeting Trusts and Foundations in particular, within the larger family of Enfants du Mékong. The Board has set itself clear targets and is now seeking an ambitious, professional and passionate individual who can help take the Charity to the next level.
