About us

St Elizabeth’s Centre was established in 1903 when the Trustees, (who had developed considerable expertise in working on the Continent with children and adults with learning disabilities), were invited to set up a school in England for children with severe epilepsy.

Whilst we are proud of our heritage, our services are completely up to date and St Elizabeth’s has become a centre of excellence specialising in supporting people with disabling epilepsy or other related complex needs and learning difficulties, (some with life threatening conditions), to have every opportunity to lead their lives to the full.

The School, College and Adult Care Agencies are all distinctly separate modern services co-located on the same campus, but with a shared sense of community, heritage and belonging fostered by a single management team accountable to our charitable Trustees, The Daughters of the Cross of Liège.

The ethos of the organisation has a strong sense of care and compassion for people with learning disabilities, giving a high profile to supporting and enabling people to develop their skills and participate in meaningful activities that reflect their abilities, wishes and needs.
